Vienna stop
A Viennese stop is a structure built where the actual stop is separated from the streetcar tracks by a roadway on which cars travel. In the case of a Viennese stop, this section of the street is raised. This makes it more convenient for passengers to board the streetcar, while cars passing through this section of roadway are forced to reduce their speed. At the Viennese stop, the general rules for moving in the area of stops apply. Drivers must exercise extreme caution, and thus should slow down and, if necessary, stop to give way to pedestrians getting off the streetcar and those wishing to board it. The section of the street where the Viennese stop is located is formally still a roadway, so when there is not currently a streetcar on it, cars drive on it. A pedestrian can enter the platform only when the streetcar pulls up.
